Website subscription \u2014 service agreement
Terms that protect both sides.
Plain-language terms for the Lumen & Ink website subscription. Last updated June 2026.
1. The service
Lumen & Ink ("we") builds and hosts a website for your business ("you"), and — while you subscribe — keeps it current and makes the changes you ask for. The site is built to the details you give us and refined through your requests.
2. Free sample
Before you pay anything we build you a sample site to your details, free and with no obligation. It's a private preview; it isn't published until you subscribe and approve going live.
3. Subscription & billing
IMPORTANT, AS OF 30 JULY 2026: this subscription is not open. There is no signup, no active payment processor connected to this site, and no way to be charged — so nothing in this clause can take effect today. It describes the intended terms if the service reopens. The intended price is $39/month (or $390/year). An earlier version of this clause named PayPal as the processor; that rail has been retired and is no longer used, and no replacement has been connected. If the service reopens, the actual processor, the exact recurring charge, the first charge date and the renewal date will be stated in writing and confirmed by you before any charge is possible, and cancellation will be one step and will stop future billing.
4. Refund
If you cancel within 14 days of your first payment, we refund that payment in full. After that, cancelling stops future charges (we don't pro-rate part-months).
5. What the subscription fee would cover
If the subscription reopens (see clause 3 — it is not open today), the fee covers your website only: its design and build, hosting, an SSL certificate, a business email mailbox on your own domain, and the everyday content changes you ask for (clause 6). It does not cover third-party products or services — see clause 7 (your domain) and clause 8 (third-party costs). New scope beyond a standard informational website — for example an online store, a booking/payment system, or a custom integration — is optional and quoted separately, in writing, before any work; you are never charged for it automatically.
6. Changes
While subscribed you can request unlimited CONTENT changes to your existing website in plain English (by email or in your portal) — copy, images, pages, prices, offers, contact details — and we make them at no extra cost. Your overall design is finalised through up to three revisions during your first build, so you reach the look you want; after that the design is locked, and a full redesign or change of template is a separate project, quoted in writing first. "Changes" never means buying third-party products on your behalf or new scope beyond a standard website (see clauses 5, 7 and 8).
7. Your domain
Your website goes live on a domain that YOU own and register yourself, directly with a domain registrar, in your own name — a standard domain costs roughly $10–15 per year. We connect and secure that domain for you (DNS, SSL and hosting) free as part of your subscription. We do NOT buy, sell, register, renew, transfer, broker, front, finance, or mark up domains, and the $39/month never includes domain registration, renewal, or any premium/aftermarket domain price — whatever it costs. We only connect a domain after you have pointed it to our server, which confirms you already own and control it; we never purchase a domain on your behalf. If you don't have a domain yet, we'll show you how to register one yourself and, until then, host your site free on a Lumen & Ink subdomain. Keeping your domain registration active and paid is your responsibility, and the domain stays yours.
8. Third-party costs — what is NOT included
We are not your purchasing agent and will never buy, advance, commit, or reimburse funds for any third-party product or service on your behalf — regardless of price or any request to "include it in the subscription". Anything you choose to obtain from a third party is yours, bought by you directly and in your own name. This includes, without limitation: domain registration and premium/aftermarket domains; paid stock photography, video, or font licences; third-party apps, plugins, themes, booking or payment systems, email or API subscriptions; advertising or marketing spend; and payment-processing fees. Where something you want requires a third-party purchase, you buy it directly and we help you connect it — at no point does any third-party cost become our obligation.
9. Your ownership
Your business, your brand, your content, and your domain are yours. The text and images you provide remain yours; the finished site we build for you is yours to keep — if you cancel, we'll provide an export of your site files on request. We may reuse our own underlying components and tools.
10. Your content & conduct
You confirm you have the right to the business name, content, photos, and claims you give us, and that they're lawful and not misleading. We may decline or pause work that is unlawful, infringing, deceptive, or abusive.
11. Warranties & liability
We provide the service with reasonable skill and care. We don't guarantee specific business results (more calls, bookings, or rankings). We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the prior 3 months.
12. Changes to terms
We may update these terms; the version in effect governs your subscription. Material changes will be notified by email.
13. Lumen Pages — the WordPress plugin (separate from everything above)
Clauses 1–12 govern the website subscription service and do not apply to Lumen Pages, the WordPress plugin published at lumenandink.com/plugin. Lumen Pages (v1.0.1 at the time of writing) is licensed GPL-2.0-or-later, with the full licence text included in the download; you may use, modify and redistribute it under that licence, and the licence text governs your rights in the code. It is supplied free of charge: there is no price, no checkout, no subscription and no auto-renewal, and no payment processor is involved. Because nothing is charged, no refund or cancellation process applies — uninstall it and you are done. The plugin is provided AS IS, without warranty of any kind, and no search ranking, traffic, revenue or other outcome is promised or implied. Support is offered on a best-effort basis by email at hello@lumenandink.com and is not a contractual obligation. If a paid edition is ever offered, it will be governed by its own written agreement — stating the seller, the exact recurring charge, the renewal date, one-step cancellation, a refund window and the statutory withdrawal right — published before any charge is possible.
